See full summary » Two young American women go on a Mediterranean vacation and uncover the watery lair of a killer mermaid hidden beneath an abandoned military fortress. I sat down to watch "Speed-Dating" without having heard anything about it previously. What was once a carefree adventure becomes a deadly fight for survival. So I watched it with a clean slate and no expectations.I mean, it’s tricky to decipher: is an acting performance poor because the actor is going for over-the-top, or is everyone else just doing over-the-top better?Overall though, again, “Speed-Dating” is a comedy that is actually funny, and that should be valued highly. After a few problems they arrive at the desired location deep in the woods, the tents are set up, the mushrooms are collected and when it gets dark the party starts.
Rating: R (for some sexual content) Genre: Comedy Directed By: Joseph A. Too Cool is the main player of the group, easily wooing the ladies back to the bedroom while Dog is your typical chauvinist pig and Beaver is… Everything is working out fine, until the health inspector (an overweight, body-painted-blue Chris Elliott) denies their club a liquor license unless it is brought up to code, and the guys start to find themselves falling for a few of their conquests. “Speed-Dating” is a funny movie, along the lines of New Zealand’s romantic comedy “Sione’s Wedding.” While not all of the bits seem to connect perfectly (there is definitely the feeling of some scenes existing solely for the jokes contained within them), at least the narrative slides make you laugh.
Sure, sounds plausible enough, but it came off as a weak result.
What was one of the more funny things in "Speed-Dating" was the tranny at the event and also the guy who rarely got to sit down and talk with the ladies.
Most of the other characters in the movie were lacking personality and failed to shine on the screen.
And that made the movie a rather dull and colorless experience. The cast in "Speed-Dating" was good enough, though no major names here.
